Good evening, all, and welcome to the rivalry edition of our high school football chats this traditional closing Thursday of the regular season.
Give me just a few minutes and we'll get a running scoreboard up.
Some of you might still be new to our new chat setup.
If so, the comment button is located below the video and above our running scrawl. Check the left side of the window for the "make a comment" link.
Should have audio chiming in with Vance Janak on-site at O'Harra.
Padraic Duffy is in Belle Fourche as the Broncs face St. Thomas More.
Jim Holland in Spearfish as the Spartans take on Sturgis.
And we are in Box Elder for Custer-Douglas, as well.
As the night moves along, we'll pass along relevant playoff information, particularly with regards to the Class AA race, which has changed to only 12 eligible teams this fall.
All rushes so far for Central, but it's been effective for the Cobblers on the opening drive.
Custer leads Douglas 21-7 at the half as the Wildcats look to end the regular season 7-1.
It's been all Tyler Schultz for Custer, as he has two rushing touchdowns and a fumble recovery in the end zone for another score.
A fumble by Blake Stone ends a promising drive, and Rapid CIty Stevens recovers to dodge a bullet.
Atkinson follows with a fumble, and Central recovers. A couple of head-scratchers early on.
First play after the fumble, a 27-yard touchdown pass from Norberg to Asher Pikula. Cobblers first on the board.
Just a couple of afternoon games today:
Red Cloud 26, Hill City 22
Webster 51, Crow Creek 8
As we did last week, in-progress scores are listed atop our scoreboard in normal type. Bolded scores are FINALS. Scores with only the time next to them means we have not heard of any updates yet. So feel free to chime in with your comments if you're hearing scores around the area that we don't have yet.
Stevens drive stalls, and the Cobblers are already back pressing near midfield as we hit the final few minutes of the first quarter.
Taylor Houchin, unsurprisingly, is the early focus of the RCC attack. Trying to grind the Raiders down. That's seven carries early, by my count.
And an offsides penalty will hand the Cobblers a first down.
Norberg on a bootleg, he'll take the ball into the red zone. Raiders in trouble early on in this contest.
Houchin with an 11-yard run, now 13-0 RCC, still in the first.
Extra point good, 14-0. Kickoff returned by Tanner Engle close to the 25.
Stevens really having some trouble wrapping up and finishing tackles in the first quarter. Central asserting its strength early on.
That would be a big boost for Washington, which is battling Yankton for the fourth and final first-round bye in the playoffs. Lincoln, O'Gorman and Roosevelt have the other three slots locked up.
Looking ugly in Spearfish. Looking ugly here in Rapid, too, as the Cobblers intercept a pass to put themselves in the catbird's seat again near the end of the first quarter.
Tuba race starts early as the first quarter comes to an end. Raiders win. Might want to ... er ... trumpet that victory if other things don't go well tonight.
I'll be here all evening.
Asher Pikula run now makes it 21-0 after the kick. Cobblers in control.
